First of all, I will assume that you have no interest in hiring a contractor to put up your bamboo blinds on your behalf. If that was the case, you wouldn’t be asking this question in the first place. However, in case you do not want to DIY, hiring a contractor to put up your bamboo blinds can save you lots of hassle. The downside is that they will costly and adding to your decorating budget. To save money, I strongly encourage you to learn how to put your own bamboo blinds. It is not difficult and the next few paragraphs will show you some of these steps.
The first step is to decide where you want to mount the bamboo blinds. If you are thinking of mounting them inside to improve your house decor, you need to be quite precise in your measurement. Just take a measuring tape and measure the length and width of your window from jamb to jamb before ordering shades to ensure they will fit.
The next step is to take out any current blinds you might have on your windows. If it is a new house, things will be simplier as you need not go through this step. For those who have existing window covering, you need to know how to uninstall them. The instructions for doing so should be available in the manual when you first bought your existing blinds.
The third step is to correctly mark the positions where your bamboo blinds will be put up. Get another person’s help to hold the blinds at your desired height. Then place the top of the bamboo blinds just inside of the the top corners of the window casing. Just make sure you leave room to allow the bamboo blinds to be moved. Every often, people made the mistake of fixing the bamboo blinds too close to the casing, which will interfere with blind movement. When you are sure the bamboo blinds are centered, make pencil marks on the wall for where the brackets are. For inside mounts, mark just under the headrail on each side jamb. This is where you will put up the bamboo blinds.
The final step is to install the brackets for the bamboo blinds. Before doing the actual drilling, make sure to put on your safety gears like goggles. Then place your brackets over the pencil marks and make another set of marks where you will actually drill the holes. Once you are ok with the distance, start drilling into the pencil marks for the holes. You might want to do a pilot drill first i.e. don’t drill too deep to see if the position is correct. Once the drilling is completed, you can secure the brackets by tightening the screwdrivers into the holes.
